The term refers to the practice of providing families for young adults who've been left without the love and support of a family - through no fault of their own. The U.S. is taking the lead on Extreme Adoption. Here in Canada, advocates for change say we’ve got some catching up to do. Adopting emerging adults addresses the reality that even when children have "timed out" - become too old for foster care - they still need the emotional anchor a family provides

Every now and then, at a time when one least expects it; God pulls back the veil of ignorance and allows you to see things the way He sees things. As “second hand lions” to a young man with cerebral palsy, I had the joy and honor of being a part of something grander and greater than anything experienced in the last several years.

Is there a different option? Yes! We have a resource that can be tapped into readily but, for the most part, remains unknown. We call them, "Empty Nesters." Baby boomers outnumber aged out foster youth by a 2:1 ration. They have more resources readily available, life skills and stability and frankly, have better discernment than their young college educated social workers.
